Lent Study: Walking in the Wilderness

Tuesdays, February 24- March 31
6:30-7:30 pm
The Peak Church

People of faith are struggling these days as they watch unbelievable events unfold. Each day seems to bring a new bout of grief, confusion, and fear, and it can be hard to know where God is in the midst of this mess. In many ways, this feels like a season of wilderness. The wilderness is a familiar place for those who follow Jesus. During Lent, we spend 40 days in the wilderness with Jesus as we journey with him to the cross. Join Peak members William and Polly Jo Green for a weekly Bible study based on Beth Richardson’s book, Walking in the Wilderness: Seeking God During Lent, to deepen your spiritual growth in this season.

Walking in the Wilderness is a daily devotional, so you will need a copy to participate fully in this study. Each day’s reading includes a reflection, prayer, and a word to carry with you for the day. Every Sunday features a spiritual practice to try. For each session, we will choose one word from the week to discuss, try that week’s spiritual practice together, and share prayer requests. No worries if you miss a day of the devotional or miss a week of the study! We’ll make sure everyone knows in advance which word we’ll focus on so you can prioritize reading that one.

We want everyone to be able to participate in discipleship events at The Peak. If acquiring a copy of Walking in the Wilderness is the only thing preventing you from participating, please email katie@thepeakchurch.org so we can get you one!

Please join the March Women+Together bookclub where we will be discussing J”esus and John Wayne” by Kristin Kobes Du Mez. This historical analysis argues that American white evangelicalism replaced the biblical Jesus with an idol of rugged, militant masculinity. It explores how evangelicals embraced this “warrior” figure-modeled on John Wayne—prioritizing patriarchy and political power over theology.

Prayer Labyrinth

Monday March 30 – Thursday April 2
The Peak Church

Want to deepen your spiritual disciplines this Lent? During Holy Week, a prayer labyrinth will be available in the sanctuary for a self-guided walking meditation. The labyrinth is a meditative prayer practice that serves as a metaphor for life. In life and in the labyrinth, we don’t know where the path will take us. We don’t foresee the twists and turns that the future holds, but we know that the path leads us to the center: God. This is a self-guided event. Drop by at your convenience! There will be materials available to guide your labyrinth walk when you arrive.

  • Monday, Wednesday & Thursday // 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
  • Tuesday // 10:00 am – 8:00 pm
